Radial artery cannulation and ischaemic damage: a review.
نویسنده
چکیده
A review of the literature concerning ischaemic complications following radial artery cannulation suggests that the Allen test has little predictive validity. Other methods of assessing the ulnar collateral circulation are discussed.

Optimal wrist positioning for radial arterial cannulation in adults: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
BACKGROUND Wrist extension is commonly taught as part of the radial artery cannulation technique. Currently the degree of wrist extension required to optimize cannulation success remains inconclusive. This is the first meta-analysis to investigate optimal wrist positioning for radial artery cannulation. METHODS Five major databases (CINAHL, SCOPUS, PubMed, Medline and Web of Science) were sys...
متن کاملRadial Artery Cannulation: Recommendations for Improved First Pass Success; Brief Report
Radial artery cannulation is an important procedure in critical care medicine and cardiology. The risk of complications associated with arterial cannulation increases with the number of attempts. A review of the current literature was performed to identify recommendations to increase first pass success in radial artery cannulation. Recommendations include positioning the wrist at 45 degrees and...
متن کاملUnusual complication of radial artery cannulation.
Currently, radial artery cannulation is the preferred method for continuous hemodynamic monitoring in critically ill patients. Reported complications of radial artery cannulation include infection, digital gangrene, thrombosis, pseudoaneurysm, skin necrosis and median nerve palsy. Radial artery catheter fracture is a very rare complication. A review of the English language literature revealed o...
متن کاملIdiopathic radial artery aneurysm in the anatomical snuff box.
An otherwise fit and well 40-year-old left-handed male computer operator presented with a minimally symptomatic lump of 2 years duration in his non-dominant anatomical snuffbox. There was no history of trauma. This was pulsatile and did not transilluminate despite being referred as a ganglion. MRI scan confirmed the presence of a 1.5 cm radial artery aneurysm fed by the radial artery and draini...
متن کاملDelayed ischaemia of the hand necessitating amputation after radial artery cannulation.
We present a case of ischaemic hand injury in a patient, who had 95% occlusion of both the ulnar and radial arteries, after atraumatic placement of a left radial artery catheter. The presence of cigarette burns on the dorsum of the hand was highly suggestive of vascular compromise. There were no signs of vascular compromise after placement of the arterial line which was removed 24 hr later. Ten...
